The King Ultimatum . . .

The other night, I went to see my all-time favorite movie character "Jason Bourne" in the third movie in the series called The Bourne Ultimatum.

For fantasy and conspiracy buffs, such a movie is a MUST SEE!

I won't ruin any of the details of the movie except to say that this movie series concerning the ficticional former C.I.A. agent "Jason Bourne" is illustrative of how our Federal Government, its recent surveillance campaigns and secret "inner workings" are increasingly being viewed by a majority of the United States of America's population.

Our people as American citizens simply no longer trust their own government, and sadly, with the exception of fellow Republicans such as John McCain and myself, the Democrats simply are right about many key issues.

No, surveillance of the American people without warrant is NOT Constitutional.

No, the different branches of government (e.g. the Vice President's Office) ARE to be held open for review by the other branches.

No, killing by our Nation state for a murky set of political and economic reasons (cheap oil!) is NOT a just war.

So, here it is, as an ultra-conservative Bible-believing Evangelical, the following points are what I call "The King Ultimatum."

First, ALL three branches of Government, Judicial, Legislative and Executive MUST be open for review by the other branches.

Second, NO, the F.B.I. and the C.I.A. are not to be used for seeking to wrongly "criminalize" the other side (Democrat or Republican) for partisan political reasons.

Third, the military should be withdrawn from Iraq IMMEDIATELY and replaced with more highly skilled "black op" operatives (not Army Reserve nurses or public school teachers turned soldiers!) in assisting Iraq in its transition to a multi-cultural modern Nation State.

Fourth, government surveillance of ordinary American citizens must cease immediately.

Thank you for your time.

Blessings in Jesus, the ONE Who sees and Knows ALL,
Rob J King, the new "Jason Bourne" Presidential hopeful

Hi Rob

You will have to explain this sentence to those of us not in the know, what you mean by black op and reserve soldiers.

"the military should be withdrawn from Iraq IMMEDIATELY and replaced with more highly skilled "black op" operatives (not Army Reserve nurses or public school teachers turned soldiers!) in assisting Iraq in its transition to a multi-cultural modern Nation State."

This immediate withdrawl is an about turn on some of your previous posts and some of our discusions. Can you explain your logic on this one?

Nick,

My dear Anglican friend!

Black Ops are the "under cover" special forces. When the Iraq War started, these green beret types landed via parachute in the North and began training up the Kurdish soldiers. They are our "elite" combat personnel.

Sadly, what is happening is that we here in the U.S. are sending much needed Reservists and National Guardsmen over to Iraq who TRULY are full-time professors, public school teachers, auto mechanics, you name it . . . CIVILIANS in other words who should be used for stuff like Hurricane Relief efforts or other natural disasters NOT used for "cannon fodder" over in Iraq!

My change in perspective came after Congress and the President could only guarantee a troop build-up of about 20,000 - 30,000 and then proceeded to not even fund the military on time (thus extending current tours of duty to 16 months from the ordinary 12 month rotation).

So, my argument for withdrawal, is actually MERELY a tactical one in that we are under-supporting these poor troops over there, many of whom are actually full-time civilians (reserve or National Guard) and simply not supported enough by our Government and thus kind of "sitting ducks."

ALSO, tactically, our enemy really is that 5% of Islam that wants to destroy us . . . THESE terrorists who do things like kidnap South Korean Sunday School classes (recent terrorist attack) are the TRUE problem and we should leave Iraq to "fall into place" as it may . . . (with likely Kurdish control and the Shiites and Sunnis needing to find a way to live peacefully together).

I was never in favor of this war (un-just war as declared by Pope John Paul II), and we are seeing the sad fruits of our nation's arrogance back in 2003.

Blessings in Jesus,
Rob

Thanks Rob

Your logic remains consitenet with our previous discusions. I too was always anti this war, but I think we both agreed that the fulfillment of the operation required a significnt buildup, "go big or go home". I agree that half hearted efforts achieve nothing. To quote Yoda from my all time favourite movies Star Wars "do or do not, there is no try".

Sadly the chickens will come home to roost in a variety of ways. I'm reminded of a statement from the Vietnam war by a captured NVA colonel when asked - who is winning this war- his reply, we are (the NVA) and in response to who will win the war - You will (the USA) when asked how he concluded his answer - you (the USA) will all go home.

Angola (leaving the SA soldiers on the outskirts of Luanda), Congo destabilised after the assisination of the first democratically elected President and the support Seseseko, Korea, Vietnam,Cambodia, South Africa ( support of the apartheid government until the fall of the Berlin wall after which South Africa was on the road to democracy within 2 years), Central America (Oliver North). The list of recent US foreign policy "success" is added to. The list of crisis left alone as teh only remaining super power could be a long list.

The only leasson we can learn from history is that we never do. There is always some reason why this time its different. The US will leave the region in tatters and the real objective a certain binLaden in Afganistan was left just when the war there was on the brink of being won, now the Taliban are growing in strength again and a withdrawl from Iraq will leave the enemy to reinforce in Afghanistan. That is the real war and your allies the Brits are fighting a tough one there. If war is ever just - then the persuit of Bin Laden in Afganistan and the removal of Islamic extremists from government was as close as it got, but you blew it, for oil greed or something like that.

I keep saying that the US does good work around the world, but your actions speak louder than words and these actions leave a bitter taste, in the mouths of those not in the US. If one day you do make the top office, to model Jesus Christ, who gave up everything to be a human and to die at the hand of his creations for the creation's sake is the way to go. Tough to do in this dog eat dog world, some may say niave, I say Gods ways are not our ways.

Nick,

Thank you. Since you are a fellow High Liturgical Evangelical (Anglican Communion, of which I am now worshipping also, along with University of Virginia, "Radical Orthodox" British Theologian John Milbank who argues for a wholesale, non-violent return to Anglo-Christendom), we are of the SAME MIND WHO IS JESUS the Logos . . .

Having stated that I will only respond in this public forum by stating that yes, the "STRONG MILITARY BUILD-UP" OR Nothing at all is exactly what we must do. Moral Obligation, even within a Christian Realist Ethic such as Reinhold Niebuhr (who makes no provision for classic just war thinking), the moral responsibility of the U.S. would be to either clean up the mess FULLY in Iraq (400,000 troops needed for that!) OR exit the region and allow the people of Iraq to decide their own destiny now that Sadaam Hussein is no longer alive.

Finally, THANK YOU for your generous words about a future "Rob J King for President in '08" Campaign. In seeking the Presidency, I would govern according to Jesus Christ and HIS Ethic much like the English monarchs of old (for example, St. Edward the Confessor http://columbia.thefreedictionary.com/Edward+the+Confessor) who upheld due process, instituted foundations of Western Law, and who promoted the cause of Jesus Christ.

Thank you Nick.

Blessings in Jesus,
Rob
